OCMA virtual events 2020

As indicated earlier this fall, OCMA plans selected musical and informative videos for our community and friends to say "Thank you" and provide musical enrichment. We are also moving forward to develop plans for the 2021 season with the promise that any event will be presented responsibly and safe.

OCMA Principal Violist Shelley Mathewson plays JS Bach

Shelley Mathewson, OCMA Festival Orchestra principal violist is a member of the Portland Opera Orchestra and was principal violist of the Oregon Ballet Theatre for more than two decades. She is founder of the Delphinium String Quartet, is a member of the Portland Chamber Orchestra, and the Newport Symphony Orchestra. She holds bachelor and master’s degrees in viola performance from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.

Shelley provides a special greeting for all of us with her solo performance of the Allemande from J. S. Bach's First Suite for solo viola.

In July, OCMA partnered with 7-Devils Brewery to

stage a successful, limited audience live performance at a private venue in Charleston. The musicians graciously agreed to allow videorecording and streaming of the concert that will go live on December 12th.

Carmen and his wife, Annie Pollard, owners of 7-Devils Brewery hosted a special outdoor event on the shores of Coos Bay this past July featuring two of their favorite bands. The OCMA board partnered with them to record the music to create a virtual concert viewing.

Additional options for our community:

Greetings from OCMA Associate Conductor Adam Stern

Adam Stern serves as Associate Conductor of the OCMA’s festival orchestra and is widely known for his fresh and entertaining insight in music and composers.   Born in Hollywood, he began his musical studies at age five as a piano student, and flute lessons two years later. At age 15, he was accepted at California Institute of the Arts.  Adam Stern graduated with an MFA in conducting at 21, the youngest Masters’ degree recipient in CalArts’ history.

Among his many professional positions, Stern recently became conductor of the Federal Way Symphony. In that position, he is beginning their season with a series of “virtual” performances.

We plan several pod casts with Adam in 2021 to inform our community of plans for appropriate venues and options for quality musical experience.
