Afternoon Café

Afternoon Music Café on Wednesday afternoon was another success with a full house and standing room for the vocal concerts by Tree-O with Peggy Maddron, Kathleen Zappelli, & Josie Reid, vocals, accompanied by Luanne May on keyboard. The audience was treated to the first ever concert by the Shamus Hanlin – Patrick Cahill Duo. Both musicians were North Bend High grads who have pursued their music interests. Shamus is based in Portland and was immersed in the American Songbook from an early age. He combines traditional jazz vocals with a modern touch, and his concerts are appreciated by older and younger audiences. A regular at Clambake Music Festival, Shamus plays popular jazz clubs in the Portland metro area and is frequently invited to join bands on tour. Patrick on keyboard was recognized with the Louis Armstrong Outstanding Musicianship Award at the Mount Hood Jazz Festival during high school. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Western Oregon University and lives in Coos Bay with his wife and two sons and is exploring the development of a new music education program for children in Coos County.
