JULY 22 FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA CONCERT I: The Melting Pot
Music Director and Conductor Martin Majkut provided a unique combination of music entitled Melting Pot for the first Orchestra concert. The contemporary American composer Missy Mazzoli’s composition Sinfonia (for Orbiting Spheres) had sounds of space from the stage. The next selection was the familiar Dvořák Cello Concerto in B minor, written while the composer was in America. After intermission the audience enjoyed Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story with its infusion of jazz and Latin themes.
Dace Gregory and her cello brought the audience to their feet with the Dvořák’s Cello Concerto. Latvia born Gregory, now a resident of Langlois, is actively engaged in the community arts.
OCMA Horn section Right to left: Rachel Berry; Jon Titmus (Principal); Chris Mudd, Chris Wilson; Madison Bobovec.
